Celebrating Data Privacy Day: SIA’s Commitment to Data Protection
Dear Security Industry Association (SIA) members,
Data Privacy Day is an opportunity to think about a topic that many of us in the security industry too often look past. While protecting people, property and assets has always been our core mission, the evolution of technology and the industry means that we must now also secure the massive amounts of sensitive information that our solutions collect.
The SIA Data Privacy Advisory Board has developed several resources that provide easy-to-understand guidance for protecting data, including:
- Data Privacy Pro Certificate Program—This interactive e-learning course teaches the fundamentals of data privacy. And the program is now available in Spanish.
- Security Cornerstones: Data Privacy—Like other modules in the Cornerstones series, this provides an introduction to the topic’s key concepts.
- Data Privacy Codes of Practice—These two documents offer specific privacy guidelines and considerations for the deployment of access control and video surveillance solutions.
In addition, four other members of the SIA Data Privacy Advisory Board and I have prepared brief messages for today, with quick tips about how you can improve privacy practices.
