Security Market Index: May 2020 Edition

Security Market Index May 2020 report

Provided to Security Industry Association (SIA) members as a review of current market conditions, the May 2020 Security Market Index (SMI), contrary to March's SMI, which stayed mostly unaffected by the COVID-19 pandemic at 50, showed the effects of the pandemic and shelter-in-place orders, leading to a SMI of 30. An index above 50 indicates that conditions within the industry are largely positive and that security industry professionals are predominantly confident in their business outlooks. Special focuses of SIA’s May 2020 SMI include:

  • Dipping confidence in the access control, video surveillance and integrator sectors
  • Optimism among respondents that they will survive the pandemic despite the low SMI
