CSPM® Profile: Chris Wilson, Product Manager, Americas, Paxton Access Inc.

Security Industry Association (SIA)

The Security Industry Association (SIA) will provide a special opportunity to sit for the exam to become a Certified Security Project Manager (CSPM®) on Dec. 2 at our offices in Silver Spring, Maryland.

If you’re interested in becoming certified, please contact Ame Enright, SIA associate director of certification, at aenright@securityindustry.org or 301-804-4741.

Meanwhile, Ame chatted with a recently certified CSPM® about his experiences.

Chris Wilson has been a network technician, electronics service manager, technical solutions engineer, security operations manager and product manager for a global company. Over the past 12 years, he’s worked on security projects from South Carolina to Afghanistan.

With that level of experience, why take the time to become a CSPM®?

“It’s seen in the industry as a certification of integrity,” said Wilson. “Some others that I saw seemed as though they weren’t stringent enough in ensuring the candidate possessed the knowledge and skills to perform what would be required.”

For integrators and consultants, having CSPMs on their teams allows them to differentiate themselves based on their quality of people.

“It starts when they ask what the CSPM® designation means, and carries all the way through to the deliverables on the project,” said Wilson.

The CSPM provides end users the assurance that the security project will be well-managed and delivered on time and on budget.

“Employers and customers both have come to know and trust that a Certified Security Project Manager understands how to manage a project from beginning to end.”

CSPM® is the only credential specific to the security project manager role. Credential holders demonstrate their expertise in this capacity by passing an examination a quarter of which is specifically related to the security industry.
