Security Industry Association Names Bobby Parmiter as Chair of SIA’s Government Relations Committee

Bobby Parmiter, senior public policy manager at Amazon, will lead the committee’s efforts to advise SIA members regarding policy affecting the security industry and make recommendations.
SILVER SPRING, Md. – The Security Industry Association (SIA) has named Robert B. (Bobby) Parmiter as chair of the SIA Government Relations Committee – an expert-led group that helps identify and advise SIA members regarding legislation, regulations and other policy trends or pending government actions affecting the security industry and makes high-level recommendations for related actions.
The SIA Government Relations Committee’s efforts include guidance and advocacy on behalf of SIA members; the creation of publications and tools related to legislation, regulations and security grants; advocacy initiatives around tax reform, procurement policy, school security, regulatory relief and state policy; and the management of the influential Security PAC political action committee.
“I’m honored to serve as chair of SIA’s Government Relations Committee at such a pivotal time for technology policy. As innovation accelerates across our industry, thoughtful engagement with policymakers becomes increasingly important,” said Parmiter. “I look forward to working with SIA to advance policies that enhance security while promoting responsible innovation that benefits customers, communities and the economy.”
Parmiter is a senior public policy manager on Amazon’s Digital, Devices and Entertainment Public Policy team. Since joining the company in 2022, Parmiter has advocated on Capitol Hill to improve outcomes for customers nationwide on issues ranging from data privacy to intellectual property to artificial intelligence. Prior to joining Amazon, he served for more than a decade in senior roles on Capitol Hill, including as deputy staff director for the House Judiciary Committee and as general counsel for the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence; in these roles, he provided legal, strategic and legislative advice to committee members, directed the committees’ oversight and legislative operations and worked with House leadership to bring committee business to the House floor. Parmiter is a graduate of James Madison University and the Antonin Scalia Law School at George Mason University. Outside of work, he is raising three children with his wife in Alexandria, Virginia.
“SIA is honored to welcome Bobby Parmiter as chair of our Government Relations Committee – Bobby’s impressive policy and regulatory knowledge and dedication to advocating on behalf of the security industry will be extremely beneficial to the committee’s work to provide guidance, analysis and engagement on the policy priorities and issues that matter most to our members,” said SIA CEO Don Erickson. “We thank outgoing chair Gene Fullano for his outstanding leadership of the committee for several years, including helping the SIA and its members navigate complex and critical policy issues surrounding data privacy, AI and biometrics, the creation of critical resources like SIA’s guides to federal grants and school security funding, and for his commitment, service and dedication to the success of the association and our industry.”
