Changes Afoot for GSA Schedule 84

Security Industry Association (SIA)

The SIA Government Summit held a special “preconference” session with the General Services Administration this past month on Monday, June 8, at the W Hotel in Washington, D.C.
The very popular “industry day” featured a presentation by Christopher Redmond, chief of the GSA Law Enforcement and Security Branch, which manages GSA Schedule 84. In an exclusive update for members of the Security Industry Association (SIA) and Summit attendees, Mr. Redmond introduced some of the new offerings for GSA Schedule 84, including drug-testing services and body-worn cameras.

GSA introduced these products and services to meet customer demand. In December 2014, there were no body-worn cameras available to customers through the GSA catalog, and now there are nine. Significant grant funding ($20 million for fiscal 2015; $25-30 million for fiscal 2016) is also available through the Bureau of Justice Assistance for law enforcement agencies seeking help procuring cameras.

Perhaps the biggest news from Mr. Redmond, however, was the realignment and/or addition or deletion of special item numbers (SINs) for listings of physical access control systems (PACS) in the GSA catalog:

  • A new SIN 246 42 1, Facility Management Services, consolidates current GSA SINs 246 42 2 and 246 42 3.
  • SIN 246 60 1, Security Systems Integration Management, Design and Support Services consolidates current SINs 246 60 2 and 246 60 3.
  • No change will occur to SIN 246 60 4, Total Solution Support Products.
  • Finally, a new SIN 246 60 5, PACS Integration, Design, Management and Life Cycle Support will be available for certified service providers and individuals.

GSA hopes to roll out the changes this summer, Mr. Redmond said.

GSA Schedule 84 is broken into several components: the first dealing with products related to coastal and marine operations; the second, wild fire control; the third, PACS; the fourth, clothing; and the fifth, body-worn cameras and drug-testing services. The updates to Schedule 84 come on the heels of a nationwide marketing campaign, as GSA seeks out new vendors.
