SIA New Member Profile: UChicago Medicine AdventHealth

New Security Industry Association (SIA) member UChicago Medicine AdventHealth is a joint venture between the University of Chicago Medicine and AdventHealth that combines the resources and expertise of both organizations to bring academic medicine to the western suburbs of Chicago, Illinois. The organization’s team of security professionals provides a well-rounded offering of security solutions.

SIA spoke with Dan Novak, training manager, security, at UChicago Medicine AdventHealth, about the company, the security industry and working with SIA.

Tell us the story of your company.

Dan Novak: At UChicago Medicine AdventHealth, extending the healing ministry of Christ is our Mission. Our story is one of hope – one that strives to heal and restore the body, mind and spirit. Our Christian mission, shared vision, common values and focus on whole-person health are our commitment to making communities healthier with a unified system.

Our team of security professionals in the Great Lakes region provides well-rounded security solutions including patrolling campuses, assisting visitors and protecting the lives and safety of team members, patients and visitors.

UChicago Medicine AdventHealth is located in the Chicagoland area with facilities in Bolingbrook, GlenOaks, Hinsdale and La Grange, Illinois, as well as approximately 50 UChicago Medicine AdventHealth Medical Group locations.

What solutions/services does your business offer in the security industry? And what makes your offerings or your company unique?

DN: Our team strives to stay innovative and competitive in the region. We train our officers to be well-rounded and professional, while looking to augment their skills with the latest technology and tools for the job.

What is something we might not know about your company – or something new you are doing in security?

DN: We pride ourselves on working closely with our colleagues in all clinical settings to provide team member safety for their workplace. Our team conducts armed intruder trainings, follows up on workplace violence incidents and shares an open line of communication to address  team member security concerns.

What does SIA offer that is most important to you/your company? And what do you most hope to get out of your membership with SIA?

DN: We hope by joining SIA, we are able to provide our team members with new opportunities, skills and resources to better equip them for the job they do. Our teams are always seeking new information, so we hope SIA can help us provide us the resources to help them grow as individuals and security professionals. 

How does your organization engage with SIA? What are your plans for involvement in the next year?

DN: We plan to share the resources with our team members and allow them the opportunity to access everything SIA has to offer.
