Issue: Federal Facility Security

The U.S. Government Accountability Office has found that federal agencies have implemented less than 30% of security recommendations for federal facilities from the Federal Protective Service (FPS). Making sure federal buildings are secure and up to date is extremely important, as more than 1.4 million Americans are employed in federal buildings across the country, along with countless visitors who are in the buildings each day. The security industry provides many of the key services, security measures and technologies critical to this task.

SIA POSITION STATEMENT:

The Security Industry Association (SIA) supports S. 3613, the bipartisan Improving Federal Building Security Act, introduced by Sens. Gary Peters (D-Mich.) and Rick Scott (R-Fla.). This bill would require federal agencies to respond to FPS recommendations on security measures issued within 90 days and respond to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security with written explanations for any measures not adopted.
